"Your personality is not set in stone. You can always develop to be a better version of yourself. Let your personality shine from within" – Asad Meah
Do you feel unworthy or bad about yourself? Do you compare yourself negatively with others?
Self-esteem is an individual's subjective evaluation of their own worth. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs about oneself which also includes traits such as triumph, despair, pride and shame. Low self-esteem is characterized by a lack of confidence and feeling critically about oneself. People with low self-esteem often feel unloved, awkward and incompetent. Often, individuals lacking self-esteem perceive rejection and disapproval even when there isn't any. A person can come to develop low self-esteem if they have experiences such as being bullied or intimidated at work, being in an abusive relationship, experiencing prolonged financial hardship, continuous stressful life events, traumatic events or life-altering illnesses or injuries.
The things that affect self-esteem differs for everyone. Your self-esteem might change suddenly, or you might have had low self-esteem for a while, which might make it hard to recognize how you feel and therefore, make changes. Psychologists believe it is possible to lift a person out of their experience of low self-esteem through neuroplasticity, which is our brain’s ability to change structurally and functionally as a result of our environment.
